Youth Court offered at Bothell Municipal Court

Provides a teen judge and jury for youth who have been charged with a traffic infraction.  The sentence may include community service, writing a letter of apology or an essay, going on a police ride-along, participating in Street Law curriculum, or serving on a Youth Court panel.   There is a 6-month deferral period for each case, after which, if all conditions have been completed successfully, the charge will be dismissed.

Eligibility

Youth ages 16 and 17.  Teens must never have had a traffic infraction referred to a youth or teen court, not have a conviction for a violation of any provision of RCW Title 46, and may not be under the jurisdiction of any court for a violation of any provision of RCW Title 46.    Negligent driving offenses will not be referred to Youth Court.   Teens may only attend the Youth Court if they admit to committing the offense.

Fee

$30 to transfer the case to Youth Court.

Provides services related to civil traffic infractions and all infraction-criminal misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor incidents that occur within the city of Bothell and are filed with the court. Hosts Community Court and offers access to a small resource room.
