Programs that provide information about a wide variety of options which help citizens protect themselves from crime rather than specializing in a particular type of crime prevention.

General Crime Prevention Programs

Programs that provide information about specific youth-related topics such as alcohol and drug abuse; child abuse; sexuality; sexually transmitted infections; HIV/AIDS; birth control, pregnancy and choices; sexual assault; weight management; relationships; dealing with feelings; family concerns; dealing with rules; and school, career and life choices. Information may be accessed on a website or in person, or by telephone, email, chat, text or other communication channel. Information may be in a self-serve, browsable format (for example a web resource directory or library of audio recordings) or provided by live agents with expertise in the needs and interests of youth.

Youth Issues Information Services

Programs that provide immediate assistance for children and youth who have run away from or have been pushed out of their homes or who are acting out and at risk of abuse. Included may be steps to ensure the youth's safety, information regarding the youth's rights and alternatives, and referrals for shelter, medical care, ongoing counseling or group support and other related services. Also included are programs that maintain a message relay system which allows runaways to contact their parents or other concerned individuals and receive messages from them. Helpline staff are generally available via telephone, email, chat and/or text.

Runaway/Homeless Youth Helplines

Public Education/Teen Dating Violence & Healthy Relationships offered at Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County

Classes on healthy relationships and teen dating violence can be offered remotely through zoom or other medium depending on needs and resources.

Programs that maintain lists of individuals who are willing to make presentations on any of a variety of human service topics and social issues or which have paid staff or volunteers, one of whose primary responsibilities is public awareness and education with respect to one or a variety of community services, issues and problems.

Speakers/Speakers Bureaus

Programs that attempt to reduce the incidence of date rape, verbal and physical abuse, threats of abuse and other forms of violence that occur between dating teens through a variety of educational interventions which may focus on potential victims and perpetrators; agency, school or health care personnel who work with them; or the community as a whole.  Activities may include classroom-based education, teacher workshops, parent workshops, peer leadership training, counseling groups for males who abuse or threaten a female peer, and community-based workshops for out-of-school youth. Programs may also be available for older people who are dating.

Dating Violence Prevention

Programs that use any of a wide variety of materials to educate the public about issues that relate to a particular field or topic.

Subject Specific Public Awareness/Education

Programs that distribute pamphlets, brochures, journals, monographs, manuals, booklets or other literature to increase the public's awareness of the need for or availability of services in a particular geographical or service area or for a particular target group; the causes, detection and treatment of a particular disease, disability or condition and means for its prevention; or specific social problems which affect the community and potential solutions. Included are publications and those that are distributed in printed format, as well as those available in digital format that the public can download and print themselves.

Programs that sponsor conferences, symposiums, seminars, workshops and other gatherings in which one or a variety of speakers are brought together to make presentations which address a particular human service topic with the objective of increasing participant awareness of the issues, problems and potential solutions that are facing residents of the community.
