Staff and trained volunteers provide distance and in-person small group instruction in reading, writing, math, High School + diploma, GED, and/ or academic skills upgrade to prepare for training, college, or work.  Students' goals and priorities are incorporated into instruction. Digital literacy and employability skills are incorporated into instruction.  We offer in-person, hybrid in-person and distance, and some distance options.  We serve out of school youth age 16yrs and older.  If you are under 19, you must have a signed release from the HS or district where you live.  We work to provide individualized study plans along with small group experiences in order for students to get a full range of support and encouragement to be on the path to their education, work, and life goals. 

Basic Education for Adults offered at Sound Learning

Instruction in reading, writing, math, GED preparation, High School 21+, and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Programs that provide instruction for adults and eligible minors who have elected to take a series of tests which measure the extent to which they have gained the knowledge, skills and understanding ordinarily acquired through a high school education. Instruction and testing focus on writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Individuals who pass the tests receive a high school equivalency certificate.

High School Equivalency/GED Test Instruction

Programs that provide reading and writing instruction for adults who are unable to read or write at a functional level, with the objective of ensuring that they have the skills necessary to find and keep decent jobs, support their children's education and participate actively in civic life. Some programs interpret literacy more broadly and also help people develop speaking, computation (numeracy/mathematics) and problem solving skills.

Adult Literacy Programs

Programs that provide individual or group instruction for people who are having spelling difficulties.

Remedial Spelling

Programs that provide individualized or small group instruction for people who need assistance in learning one or more components of a prescribed curriculum. Tutoring usually supplements a regular school program and may be provided at school, in the person's home or at a community agency site.

Subject Tutoring

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to work with children and/or adults on a voluntary basis without remuneration to ensure that they develop the knowledge, skills, desirable qualities of behavior and character, wisdom and general competence that will enable them to fully participate in and enjoy the social, political, economic and intellectual life of the community.

Education Volunteer Opportunities

Programs that provide diagnostic testing and/or individual or group instruction for people who are having difficulty with arithmetic, geometry, algebra or other mathematical skills.

Remedial Mathematics

Programs that provide diagnostic testing and/or individual or group instruction for people who are having reading difficulties. Instruction focuses on phonics, dictionary skills, vocabulary development, spelling and study skills, comprehension and memory skills.
