Programs that pay for or provide new or secondhand clothing or school uniforms for children who need something appropriate to wear to school.

School Clothing

Programs that answer specific questions regarding grammar, mathematics or other areas of study or help students with homework assignments. Included are telephone hotlines, online assistance and in-person programs offered by the school following regularly scheduled classes or by community centers, libraries or other similar types of organizations.

Homework Help Programs

Programs that pay for or provide textbooks and other essential educational supplies at no cost for students who cannot afford to purchase them.

Free School Supplies

Programs that provide financial assistance to help individuals pay for educational placement tests, college/university entrance examinations, test preparation instruction, second language learning expenses or other education-related fees in situations where the person is unable to make the payment without support.

Education Related Fee Payment Assistance

Provides case management for youth to help them navigate community resources including housing, food and transportation. Also offers help with obtaining a high school diploma or GED, college and career planning as well as internships.

Youth and Young Adult Services offered by Multi-Service Center in Federal Way

Provides case management for youth ages 12-24 to help navigate basic needs resources as well as college and career planning assistance.

Programs that develop plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of individuals who, because of age, illness, disability or other difficulties, need assistance in planning and arranging for services; which assess the individual's needs; coordinate the delivery of needed services; ensure that services are obtained in accordance with the case plan; and follow up and monitor progress to ensure that services are having a beneficial impact on the individual. Case management is a collaborative process characterized by communication, advocacy and resource management to promote high quality, cost-effective interventions and outcomes.

Case/Care Management

Programs that provide information and guidance for high school students and others who are preparing for or in the process of choosing and applying for admission to a college, university or other postsecondary institution. Assistance may include information about various college/university programs and their requirements, advice on college/university selection, suggestions regarding high school classes students should take to best qualify for the school of their choice, information and counseling regarding financial aid, assistance in completing necessary application forms and supporting materials such as application essays, and advice regarding the scheduling of SATs/ACTs. The objective of most college/university entrance support programs is to help students select the most appropriate institution and present their credentials in a way that heightens their chances of having their application accepted. Included are programs that sponsor fairs where representatives from a broad range of postsecondary institutions are available to meet with prospective students and discuss course offerings, admission and financial aid requirements, college/university life in general and other information that is pertinent to the selection process.

College/University Entrance Support

Programs that provide instruction for adults and eligible minors who have elected to take a series of tests which measure the extent to which they have gained the knowledge, skills and understanding ordinarily acquired through a high school education. Instruction and testing focus on writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Individuals who pass the tests receive a high school equivalency certificate.

High School Equivalency/GED Test Instruction

Programs that provide opportunities for people to investigate their occupational interests through simulated job experiences such as role playing; career mentoring, i.e., pairing professionals and people interested in that occupation; and job shadowing, a work-based learning experience that allows a visitor to follow a host during a typical day (or other period of time) observing and asking questions about a particular career. Also included are police explorer programs, fire cadet explorer programs, and other similar groups which provide opportunities for youth who may be interested in pursuing a career in these fields as adults to gain experience in the area.

Career Exploration

Provides educational counseling for adults seeking vocational training or higher education necessary for their employment goals. 
Common services include: 
 - assistance with financial aid applications, 
 - college applications, 
 - career advising,
 - finding the right college,
 - college loan default advocacy, and
 - help with registration fees. 

Service is offered at many locations across Tacoma and Pierce County, including Clover Park Technical College, Pierce College, Bates Technical College, Tacoma Community College and MDC.

Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) offered at MDC (Metropolitan Development Council)

Provides educational counseling for adults seeking vocational training or higher education necessary for their employment goals. Services include: assistance with financial aid applications, college applications, career advising and more.

Programs that provide information and guidance for people who need to evaluate their aptitude, abilities and interests in order to choose a vocation or career and select the type of training that will enable them to obtain and progress in positions in the public or private sector that are productive and fulfilling.

Career Counseling

Programs that provide special support services for individuals, usually women or minorities, who are initiating or resuming a postsecondary course of study. Services usually include assistance with admission and registration procedures, financial aid, library materials, referral services, support groups and workshops which address a wide variety of topics including study skills.

Return to Education Support

Programs that assist students in selecting a course of studies that is suited to their abilities, interests, future plans and general circumstances.

Academic Counseling

Programs that introduce people who are in the process of choosing an occupation to a variety of career and vocational options. These programs provide information about the knowledge and skills that are required for specific positions in specific industries and professions; data regarding the current labor market, training and educational options, major employers, and small business development; and other reference material that is related to career planning.
