Provides anonymous and confidential HIV/STI testing six days per week. Testing includes Rapid HIV Testing (finger poke), HIV antibody testing, and screening for syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and Hep C.

For those unable to access Gay City’s in-person services, we also offer At-Home Testing throughout King County.

Wellness Center offered by Gay City at Seattle's LGBTQ Center

Provides anonymous and confidential HIV/STI testing for LGBTQ+ identifying individuals 14 and older; information and access to PrEP; and Medicaid/WA Apple Health enrollment, call or visit website to set appointment.

Programs that identify individuals who have contracted gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes or other infections that are spread by sexual contact and diagnose their conditions. The procedure includes visual examinations, blood tests and analyses of discharge or samples taken from lesions.

Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening

Programs that help people in need of health insurance evaluate the full range of alternatives available to them and select the coverage that best meets their needs.

General Health Insurance Information/Counseling

Programs that offer information and guidance for people who do not qualify for Medicaid, do not have access to insurance provided by an employer or cannot afford privately purchased health insurance regarding their state and/or local government health insurance options (including insurance programs administered by the state or at the local level and public/private partnerships between state and/or local government entities and health insurance companies or other private organizations) with the objective of empowering them to make informed choices. Some programs may also help people who qualify with enrollment.

State/Local Health Insurance Information/Counseling

County or state offices that accept applications and determine eligibility for the Medicaid program; and reinstate individuals who have lost their Medicaid benefits due to incarceration, institutionalization, noncompliance or other reasons. Also included are other programs that help people prepare and file Medicaid applications and/or are authorized to do eligibility determinations for the program.

Medicaid Applications

Programs that offer HIV tests which are used to identify individuals who have been infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and are at risk for developing AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) or which are used to measure progression of the disease in people known to be infected. The most common HIV screening test is the enzyme immunoassay (EIA) which most frequently uses peripheral blood drawn from the arm or a finger as a sample, but can also be conducted using serum, oral fluids or urine. Repeatedly reactive EIA tests are confirmed using the Western blot or the immunofluorescence assay (IFA). The most common test that is used to measure disease progression is the PCR (polymeraise chain reaction) or viral load test. Many programs that provide HIV testing also provide pre-testing and post-test counseling which includes information about AIDS/HIV, reducing risks for HIV transmission, emotional support to help the individual deal with the testing process and test results, and information about and referral to other AIDS-related services.

HIV Testing

Programs that provide prescription medication that provides way for people at substantial risk for HIV to reduce the likelihood of infection by taking a pill every day in conjunction with other prevention measures. When someone is exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, the medication can work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection. When taken consistently, PrEP (an acronym for "pre-exposure prophylaxis") has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV infection in people who are at high risk by up to 92%; but is much less effective if it is not taken consistently. PrEP is a powerful tool that is meant to be used as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention plan that includes consistent and correct use of condoms, HIV risk reduction counseling, regular HIV testing and screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.

Age-appropriate education programs that address the biological, sociocultural, psychological and spiritual aspects of human sexuality. Topics may include an introduction to the nature of sexuality and the process of reproduction; male and female anatomy; the function of  hormones; the menstrual cycle; pregnancy; contraception and contraception options including abstinence, barrier methods, fertility awareness methods and hormonal methods; facts regarding contraception effectiveness; abortion and abortion methods; sterilization options; reproductive health including menstrual irregularities and typical causes, sexually transmitted infection/HIV and infertility; menopause; dating; marriage; responsible and caring sexual relationships; interpersonal skills; self-esteem; intimacy; body image; gender identity; and sexual orientation. Not all programs address all topics.
