Pregnancy Medical Clinic offered at Life Choices of Yakima

Provides a wide range of free services, including pregnancy tests and consultations with medical staff available during open hours.  

Programs staffed by nurses or other trained professionals or volunteers that visit the homes of eligible parents during pregnancy and early infancy to help the individual improve their personal health and development during the prenatal period and learn to care for the child following birth. The visits encourage good nutrition; and provide information regarding danger signs in pregnancy, preparation for labor and delivery, breastfeeding and other feeding options, baby supplies, basic infant care, newborn behaviors and child development. They help to ensure that infants and toddlers are nurtured, live in a safe environment in and around the home and receive proper health care. Included are programs that focus on low income individuals, pregnant teens, first-time parents, individuals with high risk pregnancies or other special populations as well as those that are more broadly available.

Prenatal/Postnatal Home Visitation Programs

Mutual support groups whose members are individuals who are experiencing unresolved feelings including remorse, grief, guilt or anger as a result of having an abortion and want to talk about their physical and emotional issues in a supportive setting that enables them to benefit from the insights and companionship of others who have struggled with the same issue. Groups that have a religious context may stress prayer, Bible study and forgiveness as the path to healing. Others strive to provide a neutral, non-political, non-religious environment in which participants are free to discuss the abortion experience without fear of judgment or rejection. The groups may be open only to individuals who have had an abortion or may include their partners, parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and others whose lives have been impacted by an abortion. Some groups also include those who are considering an abortion. Meeting formats may include in-person, telephone or Internet options.

Postabortion Support Groups

Programs that offer classes or other educational experiences which prepare prospective mothers and their birth partners emotionally and physically for the labor and birth process. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology of birth, relaxation and breathing techniques, different types of labors, birthing/delivery options and postpartum care. Also included are programs that prepare other members of the family (grandparents and siblings) for the arrival of a new family member.

Diapers

Programs that offer the specialty in which all modalities of radiant energy are used for the detection of abnormalities throughout the body, often following the ingestion or injection of a radioactive or radiopaque substance that functions as a contrast medium. Programs that identify individuals who have contracted gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes or other infections that are spread by sexual contact and diagnose their conditions. The procedure includes visual examinations, blood tests and analyses of discharge or samples taken from lesions.

Programs that utilize laboratory procedures to determine whether an individual is pregnant or which provide access to devices for establishing pregnancy that people can use at home.

Programs that provide educational and supportive services that help new parents or those expecting a child, to prepare them on an emotional and practical level for the impact the newborn will have on their lives and relationships. The programs are open to all parents. Initial focus areas include healthy eating for the mother, danger signs in pregnancy, sibling preparation and being ready for labor and delivery, followed by practical information on basic infant care, newborn behaviors, baby supplies, bathing techniques, diapering, breastfeeding and other feeding options, as well as infant and childhood illnesses. Later topics may include walking, talking, toilet training and other aspects of child development, all to help ensure that infants and toddlers are nurtured, live in a safe environment and receive proper health care.

General Expectant/New Parent Assistance

Programs that encourage individuals whose plans for their pregnancies are uncertain to consider alternatives to abortion including relinquishing the children for adoption or raising the children themselves.

Pro-Life Pregnancy Counseling

Programs that provide educational and supportive services that help teens who are or are about to become parents, to prepare them on an emotional and practical level for the impact the newborn will have on their lives and relationships. Initial focus areas include healthy eating for the mother, danger signs in pregnancy, sibling preparation and being ready for labor and delivery, followed by practical information on basic infant care, newborn behaviors, baby supplies, bathing techniques, diapering, breastfeeding and other feeding options, as well as infant and childhood illnesses. Later topics may include walking, talking, toilet training and other aspects of child development, all to help ensure that infants and toddlers are nurtured, live in a safe environment and receive proper health care.
