Offers trained navigators who work one-on-one with Pierce County residents who are seeking living wage jobs or college education and are unsure of where to begin. Helps residents determine which employment service or education path will best meet their employment goals, and directly connects callers to education and employment organizations. Also helps WorkForce clients access transportation programs, benefits programs, or other services that help remove barriers to employment or education. Service is provided until the client has connected with the best employment or education program, and barriers to employment have been removed.

The goal of the center is to provide career assistance to Western Washington University students and alumni as well as members of the local community. The Center also seeks to develop and maintain positive relationships with employers in the University's service area.

Offers services to help participants successfully integrate into the community through employment. Includes employment services, behavioral health services and care coordination. Provides vocational evaluations to identify realistic career options and work abilities. Offers job seeking skills training, which prepares clients to apply, interview, and secure a job. Additionally provides job search assistance as well as job retention services once a client has obtained a job. Behavioral health services include psycho-socio assessments, to identify emotional issues, cognitive skills, barriers, and academic abilities as well as counseling, case management and recovery services. Care coordinators are available to assist participants with navigating and integrating their health care and social service needs.

Sound Works Job Center assists clients in finding local permanent or temporary employment, as well as providing nationwide employment searches. They offer over 1,000 city, county, private businesses and Naval Base civilian job listings. They also provide one-on-one professional resume writing assistance including the navy Civil Service USAJOBS.GOV resumes. Other services include free Washington State typing speed certifications, interview training and background checks. Again, all services are one-on-one and “free” to both the employer and employee. The matched pair meets for one hour per week for 26 weeks. Coaches are individuals in recovery who have reached long-term stability. Peer Employment Connections Offers weekly peer support groups that support participants to address fears and barriers about returning to work or work through obstacles they are encountering in their job. Offers vocational assessments, job search tools, resume building, interview preparation, coaching, benefits planning, employment-related clothing and transportation support, and ongoing support for job retention. Resource Connections Offers individualized support to identify and access a range of community resources such as housing or medical care. Participants meet one-to-one with a peer to help make the linkages to essential supports.

Offers supportive services around pre-job guidance, career counseling, and financial literacy. Also offers a monthly calendar with onsite and offsite services, including job training programs. Administers the Jobs for Veteran State Grant program, a nationwide program designed to provide assistance to veterans transitioning from one career to another. Provides counseling, resources, employment connections, community partnership advocacy and virtual tools to assist in meeting the veterans’ preferred transitional career goals. Gives veterans and their spouses priority access to WorkSource services, including the following: -  Job listings, job referrals and hiring events for private sector, city, state and Federal careers -  Job coaching for resume, application perfecting, strategies for success, wage negotiations and interviewing assistance -  Use of computers, photocopiers and phones onsite -  Skill assessments and referrals to training and other resources   In addition, the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program provides intensive case management and employment readiness services to transitioning service members, veterans and qualifying spouses with significant barriers to employment.   Local Veterans Employment Representatives Conduct outreach to employers to promote the recruitment and hiring of veterans; partner with Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Commerce to implement employer campaigns to hire veterans and inform federal contractors on process and requirements for recruitment of veterans.

Provides a wide range of employment and training counseling and services for youth, adults, and dislocated workers; including training, education, and support they may need to pursue their career and succeed in the workforce. Programs: - Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET): Training services provide resume writing, interview skills, assistance with starting a career, and job search assistance, BFET provides employment readiness opportunities to Basic Food (SNAP) recipients who are not receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). - Dislocated Worker (WIOA): Services include career transition counseling, tuition assistance, paid business internships, and on the job training. Workers must be laid off due to no fault of their own and eligible for UI (company closure, downsize, skill no longer in demand, etc.). Special funding and programming is available for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. - Low-Income Adult Services: Provides employment and training services to low-income adults ages 18-72, with a priority to veterans, TANF recipients, those who do not have a HS diploma or GED, and those who are not financially self-sufficient.
