Employment & Training Services offered by WorkSource at North Seattle One-Stop Center

Offers individual job search assistance and job preparedness workshops. Provides a list of job openings, computerized job matching system, employer services and phone and computer access for filing employment insurance benefits.

Unemployment Insurance offices that accept applications and determine eligibility for the state Unemployment Insurance program. Also included are other programs that help people prepare and file State Unemployment Insurance applications and/or are authorized by the state to do eligibility determinations for the program.

State Unemployment Insurance Applications

Programs that provide information and guidance for people who need to evaluate their aptitude, abilities and interests in order to choose a vocation or career and select the type of training that will enable them to obtain and progress in positions in the public or private sector that are productive and fulfilling.

Career Counseling

Programs that maintain lists of current employment opportunities submitted by employers and which are available for review by people who are searching for a position. Included are programs that post job notices on bulletin boards which are available to the public as well as those that maintain computerized or other listings.

Job Banks

Programs that provide instruction for people who need to acquire the basic "soft skills" and tools that are required to successfully apply for and secure employment, and retain a position once they have been hired. These programs provide information and guidance regarding preparing a resume, writing job application letters, completing job application questionnaires, responding to job ads and taking employment tests; offer tips regarding appropriate dress, personal appearance and interview techniques; and address other similar topics.

Prejob Guidance

One-stop centers that provide an array of employment and training services in a convenient, easily accessible location. Services may include job counseling, testing and assessment; resume preparation assistance, interview training and other prejob guidance services; job matching and referral; unemployment insurance and job registration; labor market and career information; information on financial aid for education and training; and referral for job training, transportation, child care, personal and financial counseling, health care and other human services resources in the community.

Comprehensive Job Assistance Centers

Programs that provide comprehensive support services for ex-offenders (also known as returning or returned citizens) who need assistance preparing for, finding and retaining paid employment. Services may include vocational assessment; guidance relating to resume preparation, job application letters and questionnaires, interview techniques, appropriate dress and personal-social behaviors that will allow them to get along with employers and co-workers on the job; job skills development support; job placement assistance; limited periods of subsidized employment, where necessary; and/or on-the-job support, as required, by a personal case manager who may visit the individual while at work, meet with the person's supervisor and/or co-workers and provide whatever assistance the ex-offender needs to meet the challenges of entering the workforce and retain his or her position.

Ex-Offender Employment Programs

Programs that maintain listings of available employment opportunities and assign a staff member to help people who are searching for a position to choose and obtain the most suitable option.

Job Search/Placement

One-stop centers that provide information about business registration and incorporation; one-on-one business counseling; customized training; information about enterprise and empowerment zones for tax credits; access to government contracts; access to credit and financing resources; minority business development assistance; small business loan information; loan form preparation assistance; technical assistance on market research, marketing plans and business plans; and other support services for business owners and employers.

Business Assistance Centers

Programs that make computers, printers and other electronic equipment available for public use, primarily for word processing, spread sheets and other document development applications. Public access computers can be found in libraries, schools, government buildings, science labs and research centers. Some companies such as Mail Boxes Etc. provide computers the public can use for an hourly fee.

Offers workshops on how to write a resume, complete a job application, improve interview skills and job search strategies. 
Provides information to job seekers about current information on the job market, Unemployment Insurance and provides career guidance. 
Also offers special programs for veterans of the US armed forces, dislocated workers, and those workers the meet specific low income guidelines. These programs may include retraining opportunities. 
Helps those with disabilities remove barriers to employment, and helps job seekers learn how to overcome ex-offender issues.

Job Seeker Services offered at WorkSource Thurston County

Lists job openings within the community. Offers workshops on how to write a resume, complete a job application, improve interview skills and job search strategies.

Programs that provide training that is designed to enable employees to perform a job that their previous training has not equipped them for or to adapt to changes in the workplace. Retraining may be needed when new methods or equipment are introduced or when jobs for which employees have trained are phased out. It may also be provided by employers or governments for employees who have been laid off and are no longer able to find employment using the skills they already possess. The need for retraining may arise because of a decline in a particular industry sector or because of rapid technological change.

Job Retraining

Programs that provide vocational assessment, job development, job training, job search, job placement, specialized job situations and/or other supportive services for individuals who are unable to continue in a particular job, industry or profession because the needs of society have changed and the person's skills are no longer required. Included are services for people who have been permanently laid off because of plant closings, outsourcing of jobs to other countries, reductions in the work force, declines in business activities and other factors in situations where reemployment within their industry is unlikely.

Displaced Worker Employment Programs

Programs funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 that provide work-readiness training for youth age 14 through 24 from low-income households or are at risk of dropping out of school; and adults age 18 and older who are low-income and/or receiving public assistance and are unemployed. The goal is to prepare youth for high school graduation, post-secondary education and, ultimately, a career. Specific components of the WIA program may focus on special populations with unique employment problems including Native Americans, veterans, migrant and seasonal farm workers, dislocated workers and people who are homeless.

WIOA Programs

Programs broadly available to youth in general (rather than focusing on special groups within the youth population) that provide vocational assessment, job development, job training, job placement, specialized job situations and/or other supportive services that help young people prepare for, find and retain paid employment.

General Youth Employment Programs

Programs that provide insurance which protects employers from financial loss due to employee dishonesty. Included are fidelity bonds that employers can purchase commercially that expressly  rule out coverage of individuals who have already committed a fraudulent or dishonest act, and those with broader coverage that serve as an incentive for the organization to hire ex-offenders (also known as returning or returned citizens) or job applicants who have other personal risk factors e.g., a history of substance abuse and treatment, a poor credit record or a dishonorable discharge from the military. Fidelity bonding for high risk individuals can be requested by either the employer or the job applicant and is generally in force until the individual becomes eligible for coverage under commercial bonding programs.

Fidelity Bonding Services

Programs that respond to requests from businesses, labor unions and other employee groups that are facing impending layoffs and want to arrange for supportive services for affected workers.  Services may include counseling; assistance in filing unemployment insurance forms; and information about public and private sector employment services including resources for vocational assessment, career counseling, retraining opportunities, money management assistance and options for financial aid.

Layoff Preparation

Programs that provide resume preparation assistance, career counseling, vocational assessment, job development, job training, job search, job placement and/or other services for unemployed veterans who need assistance re-entering the workforce. Programs for homeless veterans may also provide supportive services such as clothing; access to temporary, transitional and permanent housing; referrals for medical and substance abuse treatment; and transportation assistance. Veteran employment programs may be configured for recently separated veterans, homeless veterans, veterans with service-connected disabilities and other special populations or may be broadly available to veterans in general.

Veteran Employment Programs

Programs that provide comprehensive support services for displaced homemakers who need assistance preparing for, finding and retaining paid employment. Services may include career readiness workshops, mentoring programs, vocational assessment, vocational counseling, job development, job training, job search assistance and a wide variety of support services such as life skills training, financial management assistance, support groups and referrals for other specific needs. Displaced homemakers are individuals (primarily women) who, in their middle and later years, having fulfilled the role of homemaker, find themselves displaced because of dissolution of marriage, death of a spouse, or other loss of family income. As a consequence, displaced homemakers have a greatly reduced income, a high rate of unemployment due to age, lack of paid work experience and discrimination, and limited opportunities to collect assistance from social security, unemployment compensation, Medicaid and other health insurance benefits, or the pension plans of their spouse.
